60% of sales were made for urban mobility devices in 2023 (+3% compared to 2022). Users who favor EDPMs and electric scooters in particular for their daily mobility.

 

THE ELECTRIC SCOOTER MARKET

SALES: IN A MARKET IN TRANSITION, WITH 678,000 UNITS SOLD IN 2023, WE OBSERVE A DECLINE IN UNITS SOLD (-11%)

With 678,000 units sold, the 2023 figures from the “FPMM Federation Barometer / Smart Mobility Lab” highlight the consolidation of the electric scooter market in France. After a peak in sales in the post-Covid period, sales volumes remain at high levels and it is estimated that more than 3 million users own electric scooters in France. The market continues its consolidation phase with an acceleration in the move upmarket of machines.

 

 

The electric scooter market is maturing and developing with the establishment of a more virtuous circle (renewal, upscaling, durability, repairability, etc.) towards more reliable, durable and repairable products.

 

BREAKDOWN BY PRICE RANGE: CONTINUOUS GROWTH IN THE SALES SHARE OF THE €500 and + RANGE

Within the 500 and above range, we observe a strong increase in the share of sales of high-end electric scooters. For scooters over €800, we go from 4% in 2022 to 11% in 2023.

Methodology

The FPMM Smart Mobility Lab barometer integrates the vehicles of
Personal travel sold in France, which can be mechanical or electric propulsion and covers both urban mobility and leisure mobility uses.

THE BAROMETER SPECTRUM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS:

  • Mechanical mobility mechanical scooters (excluding toys and children
    less than 12 years)
  • Electric mobility electric scooters, gyrowheels, electric balance bikes with saddles, hoverboards, electric skateboards
  • Peripheral products PTV components, personal equipment, accessories
*Skateboards, rollerblades, folding bikes, e-bikes are excluded from the spectrum.

ALL DISTRIBUTION CIRCUITS MARKETING URBAN MOBILITY ITEMS IN FRANCE WERE QUESTIONED. PARTICIPANTS IN THIS STUDY ALLOWED REPRESENTATION OF THE FOLLOWING CHANNELS*:

  • HSF: Hyper and super food supermarkets 2500 m²
  • LSS: Large surfaces specializing in household appliances
  • Multisports brands Specialized sports supermarkets
  • Freelancers: Urban Mobility and Bicycle Specialists
  • Internet (including marketplace)
